This track is the culmination of a months worth of study and experimentation. It represents a new found appreciation for music theory and a new level of skill in putting the theory into practice. It may seem a little busy but think of it as orange juice concentrate or condensed milk. A four minute song packed into thirty two measures.
First we will discuss rhythm. The song is 90 bpm in the 4/4 time signature The drums are fairly minimal. A break beat style pattern with only kick, snare, and hi hat. The bass is the Alchemy plug in and generally follows the pattern of the kick drum while playing the root notes of the harmony chords.
The track is in the key of Bb minor. The harmony makes use of the Sculpture synth and plays the following chord progression: F Eb Bb Cm Dbm Cm Dbm Bb Bbsus2 Bbsus4 Cm Bbsus4 Bb F Gbm. The last two chords are inverted. The melody uses single note variations of most of the chords.
There are two sampler tracks. Both samples come from my own sample library. One is a drum pattern played on metal objects and the other is a chopped up rant from a YouTube cult leader. I used the analog synth and the FM synth to create some sonic accents on tracks 10 and 11. For the final track I put a mic in front of my studio monitor and recorded myself cutting up a battle record on the turntable.
I made use of some distortion on the bass track, compression on several tracks, the bit crusher on the second sampler track along with the delay designer bussed to an auxiliary track. I also bussed the second melody track to the chroma verb plug in. Finally, to make sure the track stayed loud and crunchy without peaking out, I added a compressor to the stereo output for a mastering effect.
